I kept thinking about what cake to make. In the end, we did it with poppy seeds, because we still like it a lot. And since I have a child at home and I like to play with dough, I couldn’t help but try the “fir” model! 🙂 Merry Christmas!
For the dough:
- 250 g flour
- 50 g butter
- 100 ml of milk
- 1 or
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 diced yeast
- a pinch of salt
- 125 g mac
- 75 g old
- 70 ml of milk
- an egg yolk and 2 tablespoons of milk to grease on top
Mix flour with salt powder. Rub the yeast with a teaspoon of sugar and a few tablespoons of warm milk, then pour over the flour and leave to rise for a few minutes.
Melt the butter in the warm milk and mix with the beaten egg. Pour all over the flour, mix well, then knead a soft and non-sticky dough that is left to rise for an hour in a warm place.
Meanwhile, prepare the filling: boil the milk with the sugar, add the poppy seeds and boil until thickened, then leave to cool.
Divide the dough in half. Spread a thin sheet with the twister and place it on a baking sheet. I didn’t have a template, I first cut the base of the tree, the trunk, then I fixed the middle up and cut the edges with a large kitchen knife. I put the leftovers aside. Once I cut the first sheet, I cut the others according to her pattern.
Place half of the filling on the first sheet and spread it carefully everywhere, leaving about 1 cm at the edges.
Spread the second sheet and place it carefully over the filling, and then cut after the first. With the rest of the first and second sheet I stretched a third.
Place the remaining half of the filling on the second sheet and spread it close to the edges, then put the last sheet and glue the edges well.
With the help of a very sharp knife I started to cut thick strips of a finger on either side of the “trunk”. When I finished, I twisted them a few times, taking care not to break them. The lower “branches” can be twisted about 3 times, the middle ones twice and the upper ones only once.
I transferred the tree to a large stove tray, where I let it rise a little longer, until I took care of another cake. Before putting it in the oven, I greased it with the yolk mixed with milk.
Bake for 30-40 minutes in the hot oven until nicely browned.
It can be powdered a little with powdered sugar to give it a snowy fir look.
The children will definitely be delighted by such a cake. Good appetite!
