This year, after preparing the Pasta and Pizza Sauce and Dried Tomatoes , I decided to try again to make this recipe for donuts and carrots in spicy mustard sauce , but I adapted it to my taste. This means that I completely gave up the amount of sugar, I added carrots, I used apple cider vinegar with 6% honey. Since I like spicy pickles, I added a teaspoon of pepper flakes.

- 2 kg donuts
- 500 gr carrots
- 200 ml oil
- 300 gr mustard
- 200 ml apple cider vinegar with honey
- 2 lg bee honey
- 2 lg salt (I used pink salt)
- a few bay leaves
- black peppercorns + red pepper
- hot pepper flakes
I mention that this recipe is adapted to my tastes. Those who like canned vegetables to be sweet can add 100 grams of sugar. I also prepared this recipe with sugar and I didn’t like it. Now I added two tablespoons of honey, and it was perfect for my taste.
Prepare 3 jars of 800 gr, clean and sterilized.
Donuts and carrots are cleaned, washed well. The donuts are cut into strips (I cut thinner to fit better in jars). Carrots are cut into rounds or strips.
Separately, in a large diameter pot, mix the oil, mustard, salt and vinegar. Homogenize and transfer the composition to the heat. When it warms up well, add the peppercorns (you can press a few on for extra flavor) and the bay leaves. Season with salt (if needed), add hot pepper flakes.
If you don’t want to, don’t add hot pepper flakes!
In the pot on the fire, add strips of donuts and carrots. Mix lightly with a spatula and let it simmer for 7-8 minutes. It is important that all the strips are easily heated in the mustard sauce. After a few minutes, drain and remove from the pot and place in a bowl, then repeat the operation with the rest of the donuts.
Put the vegetable strips in jars, pour the sauce over them. Screw on the lids and leave to cool under a blanket.
!!!! They can be eaten with steaks, sausages, oriental salads, but they are so good that you can only eat them on toast
Store in a well-ventilated pantry or refrigerator. I put them in the fridge, I think they are consumed in a short time.
