Short history

The first mentions of this variety appeared at the end of the 18th century. Initially, it was cultivated only in a few vineyards in Muntenia and Moldova. However, it later spread to the rest of the country, as it adapted to the growing conditions of the hills and plains. Currently, among the producing regions are Banat, Crisana, Maramures, Dobrogea Hills, Transylvania Plateau and Danube Terraces. Being present since the time of the Dacians, it has become one of the oldest varieties in Europe. It is especially known for its increased resistance to frost and drought. However, during periods without rainfall it may need irrigation.
