Chocolate glazed donuts are among the favorite desserts of children, but not only. Whether they are quick recipes, with yogurt, sweet, stuffed or simple, donuts bring a big smile to those who prefer them; if they are also glazed with honey or chocolate, they already become undeniable.
I’m not saying they are dietary, on the contrary, they are quite caloric and not recommended; but eaten in moderation, baked instead of classic fried, I think it’s worth making, especially on a cold and rainy weekend.
Certainly, in the oil-fried version, the donuts taste better; the ones prepared in the oven are easier to make, they all bake at once, and the fact that we get rid of the frying pan is a great advantage.
I prepared these chocolate glazed donuts a few times and I managed to improve them every time, so as to obtain some fluffy, soft and tasty donuts.

Preparation time: 2 hours Nr. servings: 20 – 25
- 550 gr white wheat flour
- a pinch of salt
- a baking soda powder
- 2 lg raw sugar
- 20 gr of fresh yeast
- 50 ml of warm water
- 250 -300 ml sweet, warm milk
- 50 ml of sunflower oil
- 2 eggs
- 200 gr milk chocolate
- 100 ml of sweet cream
- fulci cioco
Store the ingredients at room temperature for at least one hour.
In a bowl, heat the sour cream, add the chopped chocolate and mix until smooth, then set aside and allow to cool.
Mix the yeast with a tablespoon of sugar, a little warm water. Leave until it swells slightly.
In a bowl, sift the flour with a pinch of salt and a pinch of baking soda.
Make a place in the middle of the flour, add the activated yeast, eggs, another tablespoon of raw sugar, warm milk. Stir at first with a wooden spoon, then knead by hand. Towards the end, add a little oil and knead until it becomes elastic and non-sticky.
Note: If you prefer a sweeter dough, add the amount of sugar. I didn’t use much sugar because I glazed them with sweet chocolate or honey and they turned out pretty sweet overall.
Cover the dough with a clean towel and leave it to rise for an hour, preferably in a warm place, away from currents.
Prepare a baking tray, place a baking sheet.
Once the dough has risen, place it on the lightly kneaded worktop. It is divided into two halves, spread in an equal layer, 2-3 cm thick and cut shapes according to the choice of each. The donuts are transferred to the baking tray, at a distance of 3-4 cm from each other, left to rise for another 15-20 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. The donut trays can be placed on the stove while the oven is preheating. After growing in the pan, bake for about 20 minutes. They should not be browned too much, because we want them to remain fluffy and to be glazed with chocolate or honey.
Separately, prepare a cup of hot water and a grease brush.
Tip: Once the donuts are cooked, take them out of the oven, grease them with hot water, cover them with a clean towel and leave them to cool. Thus, they will become soft and fluffy and with a soft shell.
After they have cooled, they are glazed with chocolate, placed on a kitchen grill and garnished with choco flakes, candies, etc. They can be greased with honey and cinnamon. They are wonderful!
Store in a plastic pan with a lid, so they will remain soft.
