I've never made poppy seed cake , I don't know why. Probably because I had the impression that after eating a slice of cake you fall asleep. :))) I did it yesterday, out of curiosity. I liked. And I didn't even fall asleep. :)))
I recommend the cake recipe with poppy seeds to those who love poppy seeds …
- For the dough:
- 2 eggs
- 10 g dry yeast
- 100 g sugar
- 200 ml of milk
- 60 g butter
- ~ 550 g flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon candied orange peel
- For poppy seed filling:
- 150 g mac
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ~ 100 ml milk
- 1 teaspoon candied orange peel
- 1 egg white
- For anointed:
- 1 yolk
- 2 tablespoons milk
Preparation Cozonac with poppy seeds:
In a bowl, mix the poppy seeds with the sugar and candied orange peel. Pour the boiling milk on top, then boil over low heat until the composition begins to thicken. Near the end we add honey. Set aside and leave to cool. When the composition has cooled very well, add the beaten egg whites with a pinch of salt.
Mix the yeast with 1 tablespoon of sugar, 50 ml of warm milk and a little flour. Homogenize and leave in a warm place until it swells and blisters appear on the surface.
Put the mayonnaise in the pan of the bread machine or in the bowl, if it is kneaded by hand, then add the eggs, the rest of the sugar, the salt, the melted and cooled butter, the orange peel, the remaining milk and the flour little by little. Knead until all the ingredients are incorporated and obtain an elastic dough. Let it rise until it doubles in volume.
Remove the dough on a lightly floured table and divide it into 4. Spread each part with the rolling pin in a rectangular sheet about 0.5 cm thick and as long as the tray in which we will bake the cake.
- As in the case of the dried fruit cake , I divided the dough into several parts and baked them into small shapes. And you will divide the dough according to the size of the trays.
Spread the poppy seed filling on each piece of dough, then roll.
The cozonacs are placed in a tray well greased with oil and left to rise for about 15-20 minutes. Then grease with beaten egg yolk and put in the oven over medium heat until golden brown.
Allow to cool in the pan, then remove to a grill and allow to cool well.
